HVAC specialists say that the average AC unit needs preventive maintenance once a year. However, if you want to maximize the lifespan of your air conditioning system, you should do more than this.
Here are a few tips for Denver AC repair and maintenance:
- Clean the Filters in Spring
After a long winter of not being in use, the indoor unit has understandably gathered a little dust. Fortunately, you do not have to call a technician to clean the air filters. Simply remove the front plate, carefully extract the filters and clean them with a vacuum cleaner.
- Clean Around the Outdoor Unit
Outdoor units are usually placed in a metal cage. While it offers protection against hail and other weather conditions, the cage is the perfect place for debris to accumulate. In some cases, home owners found birds nesting in the outdoor unit cage!
Also, inspect the surface of the outdoor unit and make sure it is not dented and does not have chipped paint, which may lead to the development of rust.
- Clean the Drain of the Outside Unit
Mini-split AC units are designed to remove extra humidity from your rooms. Naturally, it needs to go out somewhere – through the drain of the outdoor unit. To keep it clean and free from clogging, pour a cup of bleach mixed with water down the drain.
